The Postharvest and Agroprocessing Research Centre (PARC) is delighted to announce a remarkable milestone in the academic journey of Professor Olaniyi A. Fawole, who has been named the University of Johannesburg’s Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Researcher of the Year for 2025. This prestigious honour recognises academics whose research demonstrates exceptional excellence, innovation, and transformative impact.

Awarded during UJ’s annual recognition ceremony, this distinction highlights Prof. Fawole’s pioneering contributions to postharvest science, agroprocessing technologies, and the advancement of sustainable food systems. His work continues to tackle critical challenges in Africa’s agri-food sector, from minimising postharvest losses to developing value-adding solutions that improve food quality and resilience.

This accolade marks yet another milestone in what has already been an extraordinary year for Prof. Fawole. Together, these achievements reflect the depth, influence, and visionary nature of his scientific leadership.

Reflecting on the award, Prof. Fawole extended gratitude to UJ leadership, collaborative partners, postgraduate researchers, and the entire PARC community whose commitment has strengthened the Centre’s research excellence.

As his team at PARC, we are immensely proud of Prof. Fawole’s achievements and the global standard of leadership and dedication he continues to embody. His mentorship, strategic foresight, and unwavering passion inspire the next generation of scientists and drive the Centre’s impact across South Africa and beyond.

This recognition reinforces the University of Johannesburg’s reputation as a leader in African-led scientific innovation, addressing urgent national and global food-security challenges through forward-thinking research and academic excellence.
