Prof Fawole Engages in UJ Workshop on International Collaborations and Partnerships

The Postharvest and Agroprocessing Research Centre (PARC) was proudly represented by Prof Olaniyi Fawole at the International Collaborations and Partnerships: A Workshop for Researchers, hosted by the Faculty of Science at the University of Johannesburg on Thursday, 5 February 2026.

As a featured speaker, Prof Fawole shared valuable insights drawn from his extensive experience in leading and managing international research collaborations under the DSI-NRF SARChI Chair in Sustainable Preservation and Agroprocessing Research (SPAR). His participation reflected PARC’s commitment to strengthening research capacity and advancing globally competitive, high-impact science.

During his presentation, Prof Fawole addressed key realities faced by researchers when engaging in international collaborations. He highlighted that collaboration does not automatically translate into increased research productivity and emphasized the importance of deliberately managing authorship, maintaining research integrity, and upholding quality standards over speed or visibility.

The workshop, held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, brought together researchers from diverse disciplines who were eager to develop meaningful international partnerships. Through engaging discussions and practical examples, Prof Fawole encouraged participants to pursue strategic and sustainable collaborations that align with institutional metrics and scholarly standards.

Alongside other distinguished speakers, Prof Fawole contributed to discussions on accessing international funding opportunities, enhancing researcher mobility, and building sustainable partnerships that improve research quality and societal impact. The interactive sessions created space for critical reflection, knowledge sharing, and open dialogue.

Reflecting on the engagement, Prof Fawole expressed appreciation for the rich discussions and the opportunity to empower early and mid-career researchers. He emphasized that such platforms strengthen research culture and promote collaboration that delivers meaningful and measurable impact.

Prof Fawole’s engagement in the workshop highlighted his extensive experience in research collaboration and mentorship. His contributions provided practical guidance and inspiration to fellow researchers seeking to expand their international partnerships while maintaining academic excellence.
